Tony Begins His Lightning Build

Tony and Tracy's Lightning build began this week and things really moved forward. The build center was humming at 6:00 a.m.

They focused on the wings and stabilizers, so hinges and wing tips and layups were first on the schedule.

First fitting of the wings - They lay a beam across the top of each wing to keep the wing tips level with the wing.

Then they fit the wing tips and prepare to fasten them on.

Lunch is always noon on the dot when Crystal is home. I try not to interfere with the build for photo ops, but maybe I should have gotten a smile at lunch.

The clamps are holding the wing tip edges together as they cure and the other clamps are stabilizing the ailerons for the big turn.

Stabilizers were next on the schedule.

It took and bit more time to get the stabilizers in place and then came the big flip.

The brake assembly being installed upside down...

The wing and stabilizer fiberglass layups are the reason that there is a big flip.  The top layups are done, then the plane is flipped to do the bottom layups.

Happy to be the first to bring you this new and breaking news- A new invention by the builder, Tony.

Well, what do you think it is?
